FINALLY A NEW LO!!!

It feels sooooo good to finally have scrapped something again! I can hardly believe the last time I scrapped I was a single lady. That means the LO I am about to share is the first one I have completed since becoming Mrs. Bishop!! : ]  I know I haven't blogged about the wedding yet, but I couldn't wait to share my newest project with y'all so here it is!

These pictures were taken for me by a good friend on the day I was baptized. I have been looking forward to scrapping them ever since that day and now I finally have. I still have one more LO to do with pics of me actually being baptized in the ocean but I'm still banging out ideas for that one in my brain right now. These are the 'Before & After" shots as I call them, of me with my parents, Paul and our friends in Christ John & Tara who were also baptized that day.

I really wanted this LO to have a simple elegance to it, so I started with a basic kraft cardstock. To go with it I chose a simple polka-dot pattern paper in red from Jenni Bowlin, and incorporated an over sized doilie to add a little feminine flair. I ended up using quite a few things from previous Vintage Chic Cafe Kits I've collected over the past few months and I couldn't be happier with the way this LO turned out!

When last I posted I told you about an altered canvas I was going to make for the wedding. Well, it was definitely a challenge, but I'm so glad I decided to step outside my comfort zone and go for it! Now I have a beautiful work of art signed by all our friends and family to display in my home as a reminder of our special day! So without further delay, here it is...

After I took this picture I realized a butterfly must have fallen off so I'll have to replace that. The only other issue I have is the photo has come off a couple times as well so I think I'm going to have to add some hand stitching to help keep it in place. Let me just say that working with a canvas is sooo much different than working with cardstock and pattern paper...and painting definitely isn't my forte, lol! I had to have help getting the paint right, but it was well worth the effort. Everyone at the ceremony commented on how beautiful it was and what a wonderful job I had done with it. Little did they know... ; ]

Now, I bet some of you are wondering when I'm gonna dish about the wedding day...well, for now all I'm gonna tell you is I'll be getting the pictures back tomorrow! Whoo-Hoo!!!! Can't wait to see how they turned out and be able to share them with the rest of my family and y"all!! So stay tuned cuz the fabulous details of that special day will be coming your way very soon!! Thanks for stopping by! : ]

My Wedding DIY Projects Progress Report

As you all know I've been keeping busy the last couple months planning & preparing for my big day and I am proud to report that so far I am on schedule to complete all the wedding DIY projects I have planned! : ]

The invitations were a big one and as of tonight they will all have been mailed or handed out, Whoo-hoo!! I chose a simple layout design in our wedding colors and added a symbolic Cross charm to each one with some thin gold trim. I had the wording printed up on vellum by a local scrapbook store, (who I also got the envelopes and reception insert from). I attached it to the base of the invite with plain white photo corners that I've had in my scrappy stash for years. I am thrilled with how they turned out! Here's a peek at what they look like.

I also finished up most of the wedding favors last week. I had decided a while back to use a couple shots from our engagement photo session to make the favors with. After I got the photo cd from Our Photographer, I printed off 2 different poses I liked in black and white and added our names and wedding date to the bottom of each pic. Then I mounted each one on white cardstock, just like the invitations, and added a corresponding quote from the Bible to keep with our ceremony theme. Here's how they turned out.

Next up on my wedding DIY project list is the Autograph Canvas I'm making for our guests to sign and leave us well wishes on in lieu of a traditional wedding guest book. After the big day I plan to display it on a wall in our home. Til next time, thanks for stopping by! : ]

Pool Hall FUN!

In my last post I mentioned looking forward to having our engagement photos being taken. To say that was what I've been looking forward to more than anything else on my wedding to-do list would be a huge understatement, lol! It was everything I could have imagined and the 2 of us had such a good time! Here's a few shots our photographer emailed me for your viewing pleasure.

This is just a sampling of them and I can't wait to see the rest! We had such a BLAST that day and I am so thrilled with the shots our photographer got that I can't wait to see what she will capture for me on the day of our wedding! Now back to working on the rest of the invitations...

Thanks for stopping by!

2 Months to go...

Well, tonight was September 19th. Exactly 2 months til I walk down the isle and become Mrs. Bishop. Lots of emotions come to the surface when I think about that day and what its going to be like. I have most of the MAJOR details hammered out. We have the Ceremony & After Ceremony Celebration site locked down. All the dresses have been ordered. Still gotta help Paul pick out a suit for the big day and working on getting in touch w/a couple of far flung invitees, but all those close to us have been informed and I am working on finalizing the wording for the invitations. Had planned on sending them out the end of this month but its looking like it may not happen til early next month. Going to have our engagement photos taken this coming Tuesday and I'm really looking forward to that! Just have to decide what to wear, lol! Then I'll have a couple do-it-myself projects to keep me busy once I have the pictures printed, lol!

Have to make an appointment next month to start the Pre-Marital Counseling at our church and meet w/the Pastor who will be performing our ceremony so we can discuss what we would like it to include. Gotta go downtown to file for a marriage license and make an appointment w/my seamstress for the final dress fitting. Have to finalize the menu for our "After Ceremony Dinner Party" and decide if I really wanna make all the cupcakes or just get store bought ones. The original plan was to serve different flavors of cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake. I may be crafty, but I'm not a big baker.

I'm trying not to stress about all there is to do and enjoy all that I can about the process but some days that's more difficult than others.  Oh, well...it will all be over in just under 2 months and then I'll be able to relax, LOL!!!

Happy Scrappy MONDAY!! : ]

Good afternoon Blog-world! Today is Monday so that means a new Sketch for you scrappin' challenged like me, lol! This week's sketch comes from one of my FAV sketchy-sources, The Pencil Lines Blog! Have a look...

Oh and this month is the 1 year Anniversary of the start of my Monthly Sketch Challenge on Scrapbook.com. So to celebrate I am hosting a 10 Day Celebration Sketch Contest with lots & lots of FUN Sketchy inspiration and PRIZES!!! Come join us! August MSC/Anniversary 10 Day Sketch Contest

Below is my latest which was inspired by this sketch.

I took these pics a few weeks ago and liked them so much I decided to scrap 'em! The journaling is a few lines from one of my FAV Kenny Chesney songs. The title is the song title too. I drew and then cut out the hearts and folded up the edges for a little dimension, then layered them over the photo to the left and the strip of pattern paper.

I used 2 kinds of fabric trim on this LO-a small black pom-pom and an aqua lace to try to bring out more of the blue in the green-blue background paper. The various rub-ons add a bit more romance to the page and I am glad to be using them up! Thanks for stopping by. : ]

A NEW LO to share...

It seems like my scrappy time has gotten smaller & smaller over the last couple of months. Soon I'm going to be slammed with making wedding preparations & running all over town so I'm glad I finally got this page finished. I started it about 4 weeks ago believe it or not, lol!

These photos are from the trip to Vegas Paul & I took last November.
We had a BLAST at the Top of the World & I can't wait to go back!

The food there was delicious & the views were breath-taking!! Thanks for stopping by, have a happy scrappy day! : ]

Exciting News!!

Well a lot has happened in the last 24 hours and I am so excited to share it with all of you! Last night my wonderful man surprised me. He set up an early birthday dinner for me and invited a few of my closest friends and family. It was a very special night & I loved that he put so much time & effort into surprising me that way for my birthday. That however was only the beginning. He ended up proposing to me in front of them all at the end of the night. Of course I said yes! What girl wouldn't when he's gone to that much trouble to make it so special, lol! It was an amazing evening & I even got to see Eclipse at Midnight!

That's all for now. Pics of my gorgeous ring to come soon! : ]

So, today is the Big Day...

...and I must admit I'm a little nervous. Which is strange for me because I hardly ever get nervous about anything. I've been on plenty of job interviews, plenty of performance stages, even a few auditions in my lifetime and nerves have yet to ever get the best of me. But here I sit, excited and hopeful and yes, even nervous about what is going to happen a little less than 12 hours from now.

It was a little over two months ago when I was sitting at my computer saying a prayer for one of my online scrappy friends's father who was in the hospital. I have to admit right here & now that I've never been one to pray all that often.  Most times I'll admit I felt foolish, unsure of what to say and not even sure if God was listening when I did pray.  I sincerely wanted him to hear me this time though, so I decided to say a prayer and lift up her father's name. While I was doing that, I came to the realization that I too needed Jesus in my life. I broke down on the spot as tears began falling from my eyes and admitted that I didn't want to be alone anymore & that I wanted to know Him. Suddenly out of nowhere this unbelievable calming presence came over me and a thought was brought to the forefront of my mind to get up and go into the next room and ask my fiancee Paul, (who is a Christian), to pray with me. Realizing that this must be the Lord speaking to me, trying to help me understand that I had been heard, I obeyed. I went and told Paul what had just happened and asked him to read me some scriptures from his Bible about how to pray for forgiveness and salvation and how to accept Christ as my Savior. Afterward, he prayed the most beautiful, heartfelt prayer that I've ever heard in my life, for me. Then I prayed my own prayer of Salvation and accepted Jesus Christ into my heart.

The next day I woke up with this craving for Jesus that I've never had before. It's as if my whole life I've been  blind and now I can see. Like I've been looking at the world through a filter and now I can see the whole thing. The closer I get to Him the more things are being revealed to me and the more and more aware I become of His presence. About 12 hours from now I am going to be Baptized and I can hardly wait! What's even more awesome is the church I go to does them every couple of months or so right down on the beach in addition to performing them before Sunday's service and that's where today's baptism's are being held. I've been looking forward to this day for weeks. I'm so excited I don't know how I'm gonna be able to sleep and I just got off work 3 hours ago! lol

It's so GREAT not to be without God anymore and I look forward to a lifetime of learning, praising and serving Him!

Blessings,

Jami Lynn

June already???

The year sure has flown by and even though I am counting down the days til Eclipse opens in theaters I can hardly believe it's June already! Hahaha! Well, a new month brings a New Groovy Challenge. This month Groovy Deb asked us to have some fun scrapping photo-booth pictures. I was so psyched to do this challenge that I actually got all dolled up one afternoon and went to my local mall only to find that they no longer had a photo-booth! Can you believe it? So I ended up using my own regular pics, changing them to black & white and matting them to look like photo-booth strips on my page.

These shots were taken on my mini-trip to Vegas last November. We had sooo much FUN & I can't wait to go back! Interested in playing along? This challenge runs all month long over at If It's Groovy. Stop on by and see what the rest of my groovy sisters came up with for this one! Happy Scrappin'! : ]

30 Days and Counting...

That's right people, according to my Eclipse countdown clock there's just 30 days left to go before Eclipse opens in theaters this June. I can't WAIT!!! I have read & re-read all the books in the Twilight Series and Eclipse is my FAVORITE by far. I am so excited to see how they're gonna bring this book to life on the big screen. The Eclipse Trailer I saw when I went to see the new Robin Hood movie was totally FIERCE! The last time I was this excited to see a movie was when the 3rd installment of the Star Wars Saga Prequel,  Revenge of the Sith opened in theaters in 2005.

On more of a scrappy note, guess what day it is? Monday did you say...? That's right and here is the first sketch for my monthly challenge over on sb.com. What do ya think?

Love Vintage & Retro?

I know I'm not the only one! If so, this givaway is for YOU!  Check it out!

For my friend...

So a while back my friend Carlos, (who recently finished Basic Training in the United States Army), asked me if I could do something w/some of his pictures. He had seen some of my scrapbook pages I uploaded to my Facebook. I guess he decided he'd like to have something to give his mom since he knew he was going to be sent to Afganistan for a year. Naturally, I said it would be my honor to do something with your photos for you. So about a month ago he stopped by with his shots & spent some time telling me about some of them so I could have some info to add to what I create for his mother. I just finished the 2nd 2 page spread for his book & I totally LOVE how it is turning out! Have a look for yourself...

I wanted to keep this page focused on the photos so I went with a neutral background that matched the photos well. Gotta love the basics, good old Bazzill Kraft cardstock was perfect for the job. My page design was inspired by my latest copy of Scrapbooks Etc. Magazine-June 2010 issue (pg. 108 Kim Moreno's "Bond" LO). She used strips of pattern paper to anchor 4 different size photos on her page. I did the same thing using pp & ribbon on page 2 with 4 of my 6 photos. Because I was working with more pics, I decided to spread them over 2 pages & give myself a larger canvas to work with. I was lucky to find these super cool 3-D Army themed stickers @ Michael's the other day that were 40% off. I couldn't resist & good thing too cuz they look AWESOME on this layout! I hand drew & cut out my own title block from some leftover pp scraps and used a mix of Basic Grey, Making Memories and Creative Imaginations letter stickers for the title. I scissor distressed the pp behind the title block that looks like a post card, (from the Making Memories Vintage Findings large Travel Kit I picked up months ago & so were the little red & white labels I used on 2 of the photos). Finally, to give the layout a finished look I inked the edges with Adirondack Hazelnut and Vintage Photo Distress Ink. TFL & Happy Mother's Day to all you mom's w/son's & daughters serving in the US Military. As a granddaughter of a former Marine & an Army Air Corps Pilot I salute you!

A New LO and a Mini-rant...

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't been scrapping near as much as I'd like to be right now.  Partly because of my job and how draining it is working the hours I work-(8pm-4am), and the fact that all of the part-timers seem to keep getting scheduled full-time hours over the last couple of months.  Don't get me wrong, I have no problem working 40 hours a week...IF you want to give me full-time status & benefits...but if you don't, I shouldn't have to.  Sorry if that makes me sound selfish when the economy is struggling and there are lots of others out of work, but that's just how I feel about it.

Anyhow, the few pages I have scrapped, have mostly been Design Team work for the If It's Groovy Blog. For May, Groovy Deb asked us to photograph some shadows-which was totally fun doing I might add!! Here's what I came up with.  Come check out the IIG Blog & see what the rest of my Groovy Sisters came up with!  www.ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com

This is the first time I scissor distressed the edges of a LO and I LUV how it turned out!  Will definitely be doing that again!  I also used a Prima Screenprint Canvas by Donna Downey on this page.  It was so easy to work with I think I just may have to get a few more!  To age the look of my canvas and pp's I inked the edges w/some of my favorite Tim Holtz Distress Inks & spritzed  them w/a mixture of walnut ink & water.  I also tore, crumpled and stapled.  I was even able to use up some old wire words from Making Memories that have been in my scrappy stash since the first or second year I got into scrapbooking, no joke! LOL!!  The bling swirl is my own creation made with Queen & Co. black pearls and the felt flowers I added are actually a dollar store find from a few months ago.  I have to say I think I have a new favorite LO!!! TFL everyone.  : ]

A lil' Scrappy survey...

Here's a brief survey one of my fellow Groovy Gal's posted over on our ning site that I had a lot of fun doing & wanted to share. If you feel like doing it & wanna share, copy & paste the questions into a new email & then erase my answers & fill in your own & send 'em to me at jamariel@gmail.com. Enjoy!

1. Scrapper/cardmaker/both? Mainly a scrapper but I have been known to do a few cards on occasion.

2. How long have you been scrapping/cardmaking? I was introduced to it back in 2002, so about 8 years now but I have taken many scrappin' hiatus's so probably more like 6 years total, lol! How did you get into it? A friend who I worked w/back then was a scrapper & she got me all turned on to this fabulous past-time, lol!

3. Do you prefer to work alone, or get together with friends/go to crops/classes etc.? I prefer to be around others or get together w/friends except I work unusual hours so I am usually scrappin' solo.

4. Favorite embellishments? Letter stickers!

5. Favorite paper brands? Bazzill for Cardstock, for pp I have several Favs-Cosmo Cricket, Basic Grey, Graphic 45, My Mind's Eye, Jenni Bowlin, Jillibean Soup, Pink Paislee...etc.

6. Favorite tool? Paper trimmer

7. Favorite kind of ink? anything Tim Holtz

8. Who is your scrap idol? Hmmm, I have a few of those too, lol! My BFF Karen who got me into scrappin', Becky Higgins, Tim Holtz, Ali Edwards, Cathy Zielske, Donna Downey, Tara Whitney, Kelly Goree, Stacy Cohen, Delania Burns, Karola Witczak...etc., etc., etc. LOL!

9. Something you bought that you wish you hadn't or have never used? The MM Slice-and I am a LOVER of all things MM except THAT! The thing broke on me after 4 uses, no joke. BUYER BEWARE!!

10. Do you have your own scraproom or do you work in a shared area? I have a table in one corner of my living room. Kinda wish I had more space but I'm happy w/what I do have for now. : ]

11. Are you a chronological, reverse chronological, or random scrapper? I am a totally random scrapper. I scrap what I am inspired to scrap when I am inspired to create...which I wish was an occorence that happened a little more frequently than it currently does, lol.

12. What is your scrapping style if you have one? Hmmm, good question. I tend to have varying styles that I like to scrap in depending on my mood & the photos I am working with. I love to layer papers & elements/embellishments on my pages & I also love clean lines. I have the most fun mixing different styles though since I love all things retro, vintage, distressed, & doodled! ; ]

13. What's on your work area right now? A LO I started almost 2 weeks ago that I am trying to finish so I can get started on my Groovy DT work...I might have to just put it up for now & come back to it at a later date.

14. Favorite adhesive? They don't make it anymore but I loved the Kokuyo Permanent Adhesive I had for so long. Now that I finally ran out of it I'm trying out a few different ones to see which one works best for me.

15. Technique you have never tried that you would like to? Glimmer misting

16. Are you on or have you ever been on a design team or been a guest designer? I'm the Lead Sweethearts Designer for IIG & this is my 1st DT ever! I love it & am very thankful to be a part of such a wonderful group of talented scrappers!

17. Have you ever had your work published? .No, and the jury is still out on whether I will ever even submit it for consideration.

18. Are you a consultant for a company such as Close to my heart, stampin up, creative memories, etc? nope, but I used to be a Partylite Consultant. BEST candles EVER!!! lol

19. Do you subscribe to any kit clubs, if so which ones? Not currently, but I have been thinking about looking into it.

20. Do you have a minimal stash of supplies or are you a shopper/collecter? I have a considerable collection that I continually add more & more scrappy grooviness to, LOL!!

21. Are you a sketch user, scraplifter, or do you come up with it all on your own? I will scraplift on occasion, but I absolutely ADORE Sketches & use them almost all the time unless I already have something in mind for the page I am creating. They are such a huge help when scrappy time is limited! I love how they help inspire me to scrap, so much so that I started a monthly sketch challenge on scrapbook.com last summer & it has become bigger than I ever expected, (with at least 30+ participants monthly). So seeing what everyone else does w/the sketches I post has become very inspiring as well!!

22. Do you participate in any online challenges, if so which ones? Sometimes. Usually on SB.com

23. Do you own any diecutting machines (manual or electric) and if so which ones? My Awesome Boyfriend got me a Cricut Expressions for Xmas this past year & I am lovin' it so far! : ]

24. Are you a Stickleser (is that even a word?)-Do you use Stickles? I do use stickles on occasion for embellishing a LO here & there but i wouldn't call myself a stickles queen or anything...

Help please!

Ok, so I've been a blogger for about a week now. I've figured out how to add some things to my blog, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get a comments link to appear after the posts I add. According to the settings it should be there, but it's not. Has anyone else had this problem before? Does anyone know what I can do to fix it?? Any suggestions or instructions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. Since you can't leave a comment yet, please email me at jamariel@gmail.com. Thanks...

What's YOUR Favorite???

So, Groovy Deb of the If It's Groovy Blog asked all us Groovy Girlz to share our FAV LO we've ever created for her April challenge. I have to admit it wasn't easy to pick just one since I love almost all of the LO's I've made, lol! But in the end I went with one that contained pictures that are very special to me. They were taken during the weekend getaway my wonderful Boyfriend & I took to the FL Keys last June. Here it is..

...so what's YOUR FAV scrapbook LO you've ever made? I'd love to see! Leave me a comment with a link if you feel like sharing! : )

Well, here I am...

I finally decided to take the plunge & start my own little scrappy blog. For those of you who aren't 'Scrappers' or Scrapbookers, this is going to be my own little place on the web to showcase my 'scrappy work' or scrapbook pages. I'm actually working on one right now so let me get back to that and I'll have something to share with you soon. : ]
